It made me think... Wouldn't it be great if there were a sidecar for each podcast? Now I've been behind the microphone too, and I know how hard it is to coordinate the podcasts, but I see the benefits as being
1. After the original discussion and then a period of reflection, you come back with interesting follow ups 2. With a follow up episode, that gives us (as listeners) a chance to send in some early feedback too 3. Sometimes (eg. Doctor Who: A Christmas Carol) there was a change of host (eg. me then Ben) which gave a different perspective.
On a practical level, given the challenges of coordination, what I was thinking was, maybe each podcast could be a bit shorter (there'd be less need to worry that absolutely everything was covered) and then the follow up could be recorded at the start of the next podcast session (it could either be part of the podcast or released as a separate, albeit short, episode in its own right).
I really liked the sidecar episodes as well, and have been contemplating how we can make more of them and in what form they take.
As posted over in the Man From Atlantis area, I see that my point was made: reviewing every episode of a series is just not viable, and yet, they provide the germ of inspiration for the podcasts - even, indeed, for the sidecar episodes.
There are changes coming, and one of which is that I'd like to breakout from time to time and discuss tangental topics.
I really want to podcast a discussion about, could a culture develop a language based entirely on metaphor al à Darmok in Star Trek: The Next Generation, for example. Or, what is the practicality of the premise of The Starlost's ark?
As we move into our second year, I think I can safely say that we will be changing some things around a bit, and we most certainly want feedback and suggestions from our listeners.
